For some reason (blame it on The Great White North skits that used to play on SCTV) I always thought of Canada as a place where the beer rained from the sky and everyone walked around with a pleasing buzz on their breath. So imagine my surprise during a recent visit to Vancouver when it took me nearly three days just to come across a store to buy some beer.

Seven Years in Tibet came out ten years ago starring Brad Pitt as Heinrich Harrer, an Austrian sportsman who gained much fame in Nazi Germany as a world class skier and mountain climber. His conquering of mountains eventually brings him to Nanga Parbat, the ninth-highest mountain in the world. The peak was at that time within the borders of British India and once WWII got started he was detained for several years as a prisoner of war (as he was a citizen of Nazi Germany and on "English" soil at the time).

Political unrest in Thailand has been rising steadily since around March of 208, but has really gained speed over the past month as the PAD (People's Alliance for Democracy) attempts to oust the current standing Prime Minister Somchai Wongsawat. Cool Travel Quotes!
Literature, movies and even music (oh yeah, and real people too) are full of great inspirational and insightful quotes about traveling our world. Here's the one's I've managed to find. Note: I do not vouch for the accuracy of the quotes or their authors. I'm just relaying them as I heard/read them.

Unlikely Destinations! "How two backpackers trekked across Asia - and revolutionized the world of independent travel!"
This book tells the story of Tonny and Maureen Wheeler, owners and founders of the Lonely Planet Travel Guides. The story is told in their own words from both Tonny and Maureen's perspective. Part autobiographical and part business history, the book is an honest, seemingly unbiased look at themselves, their business and the world as a whole. Starting from their early adulthood in 1970 Unlikely Destinations lets us in on the first sparks of romance between the two England academics and follows them through a journey covering all corners of the world, then on to a publishing empire which changed personal guided travel forever.

Some people simply don't want to travel and are content to live out their lives within the borders of their local community. Most people however, feel a desire to experience a new world, a new culture or a habitat they have never seen before. Sadly most of these people will never enjoy these experiences. Why? Because they believe, "I can do it next year when I have > (more time, more money, less responsibility, etc)"
